Welcome to the world of personalised, place-restricted, time-limited access

Why aren’t traditional ways of controlling access - mechanical or electronic locks and keys – up to the job? They have a number of limitations:

  • Administrators in hospitals and healthcare institutions have to meet employees in person to hand out keys or program key cards manually

  • Once issued, keys are universally valid 24/7 for 365 days/year

  • Access rights can’t be adjusted (users either have a key or they don’t)

  • Keys and key cards can get lost or fall into the wrong hands

  • Employees sometimes forget to hand their keys back when their contracts end

  • If there’s a breach in security, the locks have to be changed

Criotive is a smart, cloud-based access management service from Sony. Used in conjunction with electronic locks, it allows hospitals to solve all the above issues… and more.

First, administrators no longer need to meet employees in person. Working remotely, they can quickly and easily send ‘virtual keys’ to the employees’ smartphone for touch transfer to a card or use it directly on a wearable device. Second, via the Criotive web interface, they can select exactly who gets access, which doors they can open, and the exact period of time for which each ‘virtual key’ is valid. This adds a whole new level of accuracy to the hospital’s access management system. An employee’s access rights can also be adjusted – i.e. prolonged, revoked or otherwise changed – in a matter of seconds.

Lastly, Criotive eliminates the risks of keys going astray. Keys and key cards can’t get lost or stolen because there are no physical keys. Neither do hospitals have to worry about ex-employees keeping old keys. Access rights can simply be cancelled via the web interface.

In this video, Jessica Håkansson from Sony, explains the advantages of Criotive in practice.
